The one that got away.

Yeah, so I have never been one to pick up guys at bars. But
one night, I met one I could have loved. I remember his name.
Matt. He was SO good looking, that when I noticed him watching
me from accross the room, I was surprised. He just watched,
letting me watch him watch me. I found it increadibly sexy,
because he never used a come on line, and he never gave me
any goofy smile. He just WATCHED. When my best friend dragged
him over to us, because she saw him watching me, he immediatly
came up to me and pulled me up close to him. All he said was;
"Smile for me. You have the most increadible smile."
That was it. For hours we saw no one but each other, we heard
no one else but each other. The more we just kind of swayed
to the music, the more I wanted to hold on, because it made
my world spin. It was, for lack of better words, instant,
animal love at first sight. When the bar turned up the lights
and begin to usher people out, my friends came and retrieved
me from the glimmering lake of happiness he and I were sailing
in, dragging me out the front door without even letting
me get his number. I remember wrenching away and getting
to him again, and feeling him pull me close again, like he
felt that that was WAY too close a call. "I almost lost
you there." he said. I wanted his number, so we could
do this forever, and he gave it to me. No pen anywhere to be
found, I used eyeliner on my friends hand, for she offered
it. As I was dragged away from his unbelievable scent, heady
and just RIGHT, I saw him finally smile at me. It was radient.
I was in love. I smiled back and pantomimed me calling him.
He nodded and turned away. He didn't turn again. 2 hours
later, as we pull into home, I grab a pen from the glovebox
of the car. "Give me that man's number"
Silence followed. I turn to look at my friend in the backseat.
"Give me that number, please?" Again, she would
not answer me. I grabbed her hand and turned it over. the
number was gone, having been washed away in a Denny's
resturant bathroom. I never saw him again, and I will never
forget him.
