A Tree's Life

There is a birch tree and a beech tree grwoing beside each
other for many years. Early one spring they both notice
a small seedling growing in between them. They are very
delighted to see the offspring.

The beech tree says to the birch tree: "Is that seedling
a 'son of a birch' or a 'son of a beech'?".

The birch tree does not have an answer for him. They continue
to argue back and forth, just hoping that they were the one
capable of reproduction.

Finally after days of arguing, a woodpecker flies by the
beech tree and lands on the little seedling. The birch tree
says to the woodpecker: "Mr. Woodpecker, since you
are a tree expert, maybe you can settle our dispute. Is that
little seedling your perched upon a 'son of a beech'
or a 'son of a birch'"

The woodpecker tastes the tree and replies: "well
Mr. Birch and Mr. Beech, this little seedling is neither
a 'son of a beech' or a 'son of a birch'".....

"...BUT it is the best damn piece of 'ash'
I've ever stuck my pecker in!!!"
