Re:If We Elliminated.
If we elliminated monogamy, would we be happier? Look at
the Indian, Persian, and other Muslim societies, which
have allowed some form of polygamy, for the answer. The
'we' becomes just men, or just women, and the non-empowered
ones lose out. In Muslim societies, men can have as many
wives as they can afford to support...and women become
possessions, less in value than a good dog. In such places,
women are dressed in clothes which cover everything but
their eyes, they have no rights, and they can be killed for
talking back to their husbands. In ancient Amazon society,
women could have as many men as they wanted, but the men had
no rights. After impregnating a woman, a man was killed.
The more you have of anything-spouses, cars, dollars,
candy bars, or whatever-the less you value what you have,
and the worse care you take of it. History proves it.
